Obituary

William H. Weicker III, age 83 of Monroe, passed away on April 9, 2011, with his beloved wife of 60 years, Jean, and two daughters at his side. Born January 25, 1928 in Newport, Bill grew up in Jamestown, Rhode Island. He was a graduate of LaSalle Academy and Brown University. His time at Brown was interrupted while he served in the army of occupation in Japan after World War II. Bill began working for General Electric in Lynn, Massachusetts, but spent most of his career as a manager of labor relations for General Electric headquarters in New York City and Fairfield, Connecticut. An avid collector of early jazz and swing music, his collection exceeded over five thousand 78's from the 20's, 30's and 40's. He donated some of his collection to Yale University and recorded part for the United States Library of Congress. He enjoyed volunteering at WPKN where, upon occasion, he shared his love for jazz on air. Bill was also an ardent reader of all works especially poetry. He loved good chocolate and a good game of tennis. His four children; Stephen and his wife Debra, Peter, Nancy, Joan and her husband Turnor, as well as his four grandchildren, will miss him greatly. The family would like to thank all the aides and nurses at Shelton Lakes for their wonderful care of Bill during his last year of life. A memorial service will be held at Monroe Congregational Church on Saturday, April 30th at 11:00 a.m. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association or Doctors Without Borders. The Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
