Walter P. Turek, age 85 of Stratford passed away on Monday April 14, 2008 in Bridgeport Hospital. Mr. Turek, a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran of WW # II and the Korean War was born in Bridgeport to the late Peter and Mary (Tabak) Turek and has been a life long area resident. He served as a radio radar operator in the dive-bomber squadron during WW # II and was a life long amateur radio operator with the call sign of KB1BYZ. Walter graduated Cum Laude from the University of Bridgeport with as BS in Sociology and Political Science. He worked for the United States Customs Department for twenty-one years retiring in 1980 as Director of the Regulatory Audit Division. In his retirement he was active in genealogic research and made many visits to his family in Slovakia, which brought him great joy. He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 52 years Helen Chuba Turek. Survivors include his devoted children Richard Turek and his wife Judy of Illinois and Leslie Turek of Massachusetts, his 3 cherished grandchildren Tracy Lynn Swanson, Lisa Marie Henslee and Kevin Richard Turek, 7 great-grandchildren, a brother Joseph Turek of Virginia, several nieces and nephews and several cousins in the U.S. and Slovakia. Funeral services will take place on Friday April 18th at 12 noon in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford with Very Rev. David Cochran officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call on Friday from 11-12 noon.
