Walter Richard Leavy, Sr., age 91, passed away peacefully on 4 February 2025 in the Orlando area surrounded by his family. Walter retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1995 after working as a clerk in the Trumbull Post Office in Connecticut for over 25 years.
Walter was born in Stratfield, Connecticut on 26 August 1933 to the late Irving and Lillian (nee Siegelack) Leavy. He was a long-time resident of Trumbull where he and his beloved wife, Helen (nee O'Donoghue), raised three children, Mary, Ellen, and Walter, Jr., as well as numerous dogs and cats over the years. They were also members of Saint Catherine's Catholic Church, where Walter volunteered as an usher. His humor, devotion, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Walter served in the U.S. Army and then as a tool and die maker before making a career for himself at the postal service. Walter and Helen relocated to Virginia in 2004, where they lived next door to their daughter, Ellen. During the winter months, they lived with their daughter, Mary, in Florida. Helen predeceased Walter in 2006. In 2011, he married Maria Aparicio from Orlando who predeceased him.
He leaves behind his daughters, Mary Leavy of Orlando, FL, Ellen Painter and her husband Bill of McGaheysville, VA, his son Walter Leavy, Jr. and his wife Jill of Ashburn, VA; his brother Edward Leavy of Shelton, CT; and grandchildren Cassandra Bentley, Chris Painter and his wife Jayne, Walter Leavy III, Dalen Leavy, and Cameron Turner, as well as several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation on Friday February 14, 2025, from 10:00-11:30 a.m., in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford; with a prayer service at 11:30a.m. Interment will follow in Mountain Grove of Easton Cemetery.
