Vladimir (Walter) Krochta, age 74, of Stratford fell asleep in the Lord on Thursday, November 14, 2013, after a long, courageous battle with multiple cancers. He is the loving husband of Carole (Dolyak) Krochta. Walter was born in Derby, CT, on February 27, 1939, son of Subdeacon Andrew and Mary (Cuper) Krochta. He was devoted to his Orthodox Christian faith and a long time parishioner of St. John's Orthodox Church (Silver Lane, Stratford) where he had many roles including church board treasurer, ACRY treasurer and bingo caller. He served in the US Navy during peacetime and was employed for over 25 years at Bargain News. He was a big fan of the New York Yankees, New York Giants, and UCONN basketball and enjoyed watching their games. Walter is the loving father of son Gregory Krochta and his wife Michele of Aurora, CO, son Stephen Krochta and his wife Della of Centennial, CO, daughter Jennifer Hooker and her husband Robb of Phoenix, AZ, and stepdaughter Debbie Samilenko and her husband Peter of Milford, CT. He is the loving grandfather of Alica, Mikhala, Alexandra and Quinton Krochta, Caitlin and Garrett Hooker, and Josef Samilenko. Walter is also survived by his sister Eugenia Candela and her husband Joseph of Ft. Hill, SC, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Very Reverend Peter Krochta and two sisters Valentina Evans and Daria Maiori. A Requiem Funeral Service will be celebrated by on Tuesday, November 19th at 9 a. m. in St. John's Orthodox Church 600 Silver Lane, Stratford. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Monroe. Friends may greet the family on Monday from 4-8 p.m. in the church. A Panachida service will be held on Monday; at 7 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford.
