Vera Fomenko Peebles, age 91, of Stratford, the beloved widow of Nathan A. Peebles, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017 in Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center in Shelton. Born in Bridgeport on August 21, 1925 to the late Peter and Alexandra (Kaszyk) Fomenko, she has been a life long area resident. She was a member of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, the Baldwin Senior Center and the Shelton Senior Center. Survivors include her devoted daughters, Janet Gernat and her husband George of Shelton and Pamela Belliveau and her husband Richard of Bristol, 5 grandchildren, Jillian White and her husband Eric, Melissa Iwaniec and her husband John, Ryan Gernat and his wife Jessica, Richard and James Belliveau, 5 great-grandchildren, Autumn and Maxine Gernat, John, Alexandra and Emily Iwaniec, a sister, Katherine Pcolka, a sister-in-law, Mary Fomenko, several nieces and nephews. Vera was predeceased by her brothers, Jacob and John Fomenko and sisters, Ann Garlinski, Helen Etheridge and Mary Brister. The family would like express gratitude and thanks to the staff of Bishop Wicke Heath and Rehabilitation Center for the extraordinary care given to their mother. Funeral Services will take place on Thursday, August 17 th at 8:30AM in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford and at 9:30AM in St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, 1 Honeyspot Road, Stratford, with a Requiem Funeral Service. Interment will take place in St. John's Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-7PM. Pannychida will be at 6:30PM. The family request in lieu of flowers, those desiring may make a donation in Vera's memory to St Nicholas Church.
