Thomas M. Papcun Sr., age 85, of Orange, beloved husband of Mabel Bargo Papcun, passed away on June 27, 2021, in his home.
Tom was born in Bridgeport on November 30, 1935, to the late Anthony and Edith (Strutzel) Papcun and had been a lifelong area resident. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the Navy Seabees as a heavy equipment operator. After serving for 28 years, he retired in 1981 with the rank of E6. Tom worked as Chief Operator for the City of Bridgeport, WPCA retiring in1991. In his day, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and donating his money at the slot machines in the casinos.
Survivors in addition to his beloved wife of 55 years, include his devoted children, Nancy Giblin and her husband Dan of Trumbull, Thomas Papcun Jr., and his wife Doris of Stratford, Kevin Papcun of Torrington, and Michael Papcun. Cherished grandchildren, Sarah (Dave), Hayley (Brian), and Danny Jr., and several other grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His siblings, Tony Papcun (Chris), Billy Papcun (Marilyn), Sue Andrews (Ron), Lillian Keogh (Pete), and sister-in law, Sherry Papcun, beloved in-laws, Shirley, Sandra (Ron), Debbie (Mark), Robert (Andrea), and George and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Tom was pre-deceased by his son, Glenn, brothers, Robert, and Stephen, and sister, Renee Taska.
Friends may visit with his family on Wednesday, June 30th from 4-7 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford. Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 1st at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery, Monroe.
