T. Silvia Peña Muniz, age 90, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, December 13, 2015. Born December 29, 1924 to the late Severiano and Noelia Peña in Madruga, Cuba, Mrs. Muniz immigrated to the U.S. with her husband and children in 1967. She resided in Bridgeport, CT before moving to Shelton with her daughter and son in law 8 years ago. Mrs. Muniz was a devoted teacher for over 50 years. Once in the U.S., she taught Spanish at St. Joseph High School in Trumbull before her 21-year tenure at Notre Dame Catholic High School in Fairfield. Retired in 1993, her life's passion was teaching whether in or out of the classroom; she impacted the lives of everyone she taught. Everyone knew if you asked Mrs. Muniz a question in class, you would get an honest answer attached to a story. There was a lesson learned, though perhaps it wasn't about Spanish grammar. Mrs. Muniz loved gardening, sewing, and being surrounded by family and friends. Pachy and Pelu traveled extensively through Europe and South America, played dominoes with friends and could clear a dance floor when they got on it. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Reynaldo (Pachy), her son and daughter-in-law, Reynaldo Jr. and Dineen Muniz, her daughter and son-in-law, Silvia and John Hay, grandchildren Krystyna, Reynaldo III, Natallie, Nathenel, Kaileigh, and Zacharey Muniz, Justina Hay, John M. and wife Kim Hay, and great-grandchildren, Jayden McManus, John M. Jr. and Gavin Hay. Mrs. Muniz was predeceased by her sister Mirtha DiNapoli and her nephew Richard DiNapoli. Friends and family may call on Tuesday, December 15th in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford from 4:00-8:00p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 16th at 10 a.m. in St. Mark's Church 500 Wigwam Lane Stratford. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Notre Dame Catholic High School, 220 Jefferson St., Fairfield, CT 06825 to establish a Mrs. Silvia Muniz scholarship fund.
