Obituary

Stanley Anthony Sobieraj, age 90, of Stratford, the beloved husband of Kathleen Frank Sobieraj, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Bridgeport Hospital. A 55-year resident of Stratford, he was born in Larksville, Pennsylvania on August 1, 1931 to the late Stanley J. and Rose (Motyka) Sobieraj. Stanley graduated from Warren Harding High Class of 1949, attended the University of Bridgeport, and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He retired as the longtime proprietor of Nutmeg Carpet Shoppe in Old Saybrook, CT. Stanley adored his family, who meant more to him than anything else in his life. He delighted in hearing the details of everyone's accomplishments and offered great advice and wisdom when asked. Stan enjoyed a good night out with Kathleen, friends, and a Manhattan, as well as hosting holiday family dinners and birthday celebrations.  He also enjoyed attending his sons' sporting events and his grandchildren's activities throughout the years. An avid golfer, he looked forward to his yearly golf tournament with his six sons that he hosted through his late 80s. He shared his passions for UConn Huskies Women's Basketball, dad jokes, good western movies, and Gene Autry with all who had the honor and privilege of knowing him. Survivors in addition to Kathleen, his wife of 48 years, include his six sons, David and his wife Michelle of Stamford, Robert of Independence, MO, Mark and his wife Joan of Shelton, Richard and his wife Heidi of Shelton, Jeffrey of Stratford and Todd of North Haven.  He cherished his grandchildren, David (wife Leslie) Sobieraj, Michael (wife Gaby) Sobieraj, Brittany (husband Eli) Bresley, Kyle Belle, Elise, Rick, Miles and Chase Sobieraj, as well as his great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Isabel, River, Asher, and Olivia. Uncle Stan was also loved by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Stanley is predeceased by his first wife Frances Grand Sobieraj and his brother Robert Sobieraj. Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, January 19 th from 4-7 p.m. at the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford. Masks are required as visitors walk through, pay their respects and exit without lingering to ensure all guests can come through the building. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 20 th at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church, 497 Second Hill Lane, Stratford. Interment with full military honors will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Stratford.  Masks are required for all services.
