Obituary

Sonia Marie Halapin, age 87, of Shelton, formerly of Trumbull, passed away at home in the arms of her daughter Lora on January 17, 2024. Sonia was the widow of Donald S. Halapin Sr. they were childhood sweethearts and were married for 36 years before his passing.

Sonia was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to the late Sterling and Sophie (Sinko) Nash. After her birth the family moved to Connecticut and were lifelong area residents. She was a graduate of Harding High School, class of 1954. Sonia was a retired real estate agent and office manager for David Mase Real Estate. She later assumed the Presidency of the family-owned Rader Industries, Inc. upon her husband's passing.

Sonia was a loving, selfless and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a Sunday School Teacher when her children were young and spent her retired life dedicated to giving back and traveling the world. She donated to many charities including, Red Cross, Doctors without Borders, and Operation Christmas Child, just to name a few. Not only was she a giver, she was also a true artist. She enjoyed oil painting, pottery, clay, knitting and was a connoisseur of all things unique or unusual. She was a chef in every sense of the word. Collecting recipes she loved from family and friends, you could always find her in the kitchen. Even when she could no longer do the cooking herself you could still find her in the kitchen keeping watch. An avid Yankee's fan, she loved baseball season. If there was a game, you could guarantee she was watching.

Sonia was a beautiful soul who lived a fulfilled life, and she will be remembered for all the joy she brought to others.  Anyone who had the pleasure to know her would tell you she had a heart of gold. She never thought twice to help anyone in need. Her doors were always open, and stomachs were always full. Her spirit will continue to live on through all the fond memories shared with family and friends. Heaven has surely welcomed a new angel.

Survivors include her devoted children, Donald S. Halapin Jr., Brian Halapin and his wife Kimberly, Lora Calo and David Halapin, 6 cherished grandchildren, Brian Halapin II and his wife Jessica, Dustin Halapin, Brett and Erin Halapin, Loren Calo and her husband Brian Parker, and A.J.
