Shirley E. Pyatak, age 101, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late John Pyatak, passed away peacefully in her home on May 28, 2026.
Shirley was born in Bridgeport on March 29, 1925, to the late John and Emma (Hofmiller) Mason and has been a Stratford resident since 1950. She was the valedictorian of her 8th grade class at St. Mary School in Bridgeport and graduated from Harding High School, class of 1943. Shirley earned her nursing degree from Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing; she was a Cadet Nurse for the U.S. Navy during WWII at Chelsea Naval Hospital and worked at Bridgeport Hospital on Richardson 10. She will fondly be remembered as the “neighborhood nurse”.
Shirley was also Cub Scout den mother and was involved in Stratford PAL during the late 1950’s. She was an avid fan of UConn basketball and the Boston Red Sox. Shirley enjoyed cooking and made “the best pot roast and potatoes of all time!” She was always there to lend a helping hand and was a lot of fun.
Survivors include her devoted sons, John E. (Bud) Pyatak of Cape Cod and Daniel Pyatak and his wife Michele Bonitatibus Pyatak of Shelton, cherished grandchildren, Annie Faith Noonan and Christopher (Samantha) Pyatak, great-grandchildren, Zoe and Callin Noonan and Emmett Kolber and Saskia Pyatak. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Margaret Piatak, Agnes Hart and Irene Mulligan, nieces and nephews, Pat (Sandy) Mason, Maureen Mason, and Cathy Prinner, and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Shirley was pre-deceased by her daughter-in-law, Susan Keese Pyatak, brothers, James, Gerald and John (Jack) Mason, and sister, Margaret DeLorme.
The Pyatak family would like to thank Evelyne Manigat for her kind and loving care and Donna Vogel for her special help and guidance.
