Selma Viola Bliss Stevens Clark, was born in Stratford on Sept. 1, 1918. She was the only child of Roswell E. Bliss and Gertrude M. Kraut. Selma graduated from Stratford High School and from Bates College, and received her Master's Degree in education from the University of Bridgeport. She was a schoolteacher in Stratford, at Nichols School, for thirty-seven years, and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Survivors include two sons, Howard M. Stevens Jr. and his wife Sally J. of Stratford, and Craig B. Stevens and his wife Sharon D. of Rockhill, South Carolina, a stepdaughter, Donna C. Lemos, of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Selma was pre-deceased by her two husbands, Howard M. Stevens, and Carleton W. Clark. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Stratford her entire life, and was a long time member of the Church Chancel Committee. She also volunteered at the Golden Rooster shop before her illness, and as a docent at Judson House. She was an avid dog lover and showed one of them to his championship and on to Westminster. She was very interested in dancing and in horseback riding. She will be missed by her family, friends, and former colleagues and students. A Memorial service will be celebrated on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 2p.m. in Christ Episcopal Church 2000 Main St Stratford, CT. Burial will be private.
