Saundra Weihing, age 77, passed away on Sunday, June 25th in Scarborough, Maine.
Saundra was the daughter of the late Alexander and Marian Petorak and was predeceased by her brother Gregory Petorak. She leaves behind her sons Thomas (Sage) and Jeffrey (Emily) Weihing, her daughter Kristina Weihing, granddaughter Chloe Weihing, as well as her niece and nephew and many dear friends.
Saundra graduated from Notre Dame Catholic High School in 1964 and completed her bachelor's degree at Sacred Heart University in 1968. She was salutatorian of both her high school and undergraduate classes. She later earned a master's degree in education from the University of Bridgeport in 1979. Saundra had a passion for education and devoted her career to teaching, most notably at the Learning Community in Westport where she taught for 6 years and served as Executive and Educational Director for 18 years.
In her childhood and young adulthood, Saundra danced and performed in musicals and maintained a lifelong love of dancing, music and the arts. She was an avid reader of fiction and loved discussing books and surprising others with gifts of just the right book. Saundra had an eye for detail and loved creating unique spaces and experiences for herself and others, whether by decorating a room, designing an outfit, or preparing the perfect meal. Saundra loved to spend time and laugh with family and friends. Family vacations to Rhode Island and Block Island will be long remembered, as will trips to visit her children and granddaughter, day trips to New York City and holiday family gatherings through the years. Saundra loved animals, especially Sherman, her pet dog of many years. A lifelong resident of Connecticut, growing up in Stratford and living in Black Rock and later in Fairfield as an adult, she always lived near the shore and loved the ocean and being at the beach.
Saundra's most cherished roles were being mother to her three children and grandmother to her granddaughter. She will be dearly missed.
Visitation on Friday June 30th from 4-7 pm in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at10:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford.
