Obituary

Serafin R. (Sal) Antignani died in his home on Saturday, March 18, 2006, surrounded by the love of his family at age 90. He was the son of the late Carlo and Adelina Nittolo Antignani. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Gloria Riseley (Chehy) Antignani. He was born August 15, 1915, in Armonk, New York. Sal grew up in Huntington, Connecticut, where he would travel to school by horse and wagon. The family later moved to Bridgeport where he graduated from Central High School in 1932 at the age of 16. He was a graduate of the University of Bridgeport majoring in Science. One of Sal's greatest joys was singing. He shared his fine tenor voice with glee clubs, choruses and choirs. He sang in concert tours that traveled to Europe, the United Kingdom and Scandinavia. His greatest musical love was singing with The Yankee Male Chorus, touring summers in New England. He sang with his "Brothers in Song" for 50 years. Sal was a 29 gallon and 5 pint donor for The American Red Cross. Sal worked for Chance Vought, Avco Lycoming, retiring from Textron at the age of 72. He was an avid golfer, bowler and softball player. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his favorite birds, Cardinals, and the color red. His last selfless act was to donate his body to Yale University Medical School. He is also survived by his daughter Laura and son-in-law, Paul Hoydick of Stratford, son Mark and daughter-in-law Donna Antignani of Budd Lake, New Jersey, daughter Lisa Holt of Stratford, son Paul Antignani of Wilmington, Vermont, and son Stephen Antignani of Stratford. Sal was inordinately proud of his eight grandchildren: Brooke Ann Margaret, Jillian Alexandria and Paige Alexis Hoydick, Michael Serafin, Anthony James and Eric Robert Antignani, Lauren Riseley and Michael Joseph Holt. He is also survived by his brother Ralph Anthony, nephews Carl and David Antignani, James, John and Joseph Antignani, Frank and John Del Vecchio; nieces Mary-Jo Good, Elena Rusnak, Diana Goldstein, Nancy Diaz, Joan Mantone, Teresa Antignani and Elaine Gallucci. He also left behind sisters-in-law Rosemary and Mary Antignani of Bridgeport, and Linda Chehy of Stratford. He was predeceased by brothers Felix and Joseph Antignani and sisters Filomena Del Vecchio, Anna Noonan, Regina and Marie Antignani, niece Marie Chalker and nephew Louis Antignani. The family would like to express deep gratitude to Gina Altieri, Charlotte and George Smith and Dr. Charles Kochan for the excellent care and love given to Sal while battling Parkinson's disease. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church 498 Second Hill Lane, Stratford. The family will greet friends on Tuesday March 21 from 4-7pm in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford In lieu of flowers; donations may be made in Sal's name to the "Capital Campaign" at Sterling House Community Center, 2283 Main Street, Stratford, Connecticut, 06615
