Ruth C. (Stevens) Brewer passed away on July 25, 2022, one week shy of her 95th birthday, surrounded by her loving family. She was a Stratford resident for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Robert P. Brewer, who died January 16, 1999. She was born in Springfield, MA. on August 2, 1927, the daughter of the late James C. and Beatrice D. (Kazle) Stevens. Ruth graduated from Chicopee High School in Chicopee, MA. in 1945. She attended American International College for 1 year and graduated from Springfield Hospital School of Nursing in June 1949. Ruth began her career as a staff nurse at Wesson Maternity Hospital until 1951, when she enlisted in the U.S. Army Nurse Corp, where she spent 2 years in Nuremberg, Germany. Later, she joined Lord Chamberlain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stratford and became Director of Nursing where she tried to set an example of a strong professional role model - with emphasis in the best possible care of the resident and day to day interaction with the staff. Upon retirement in 1995, she continued to volunteer at Lord Chamberlain. She loved being a nurse and she never gave up her nursing skills. To the end, she was always concerned about caring for others. She was a loving and caring mother who always put the family first. She was the beloved mother of Holly A. Shultz (a caring Mother-in-law to her husband Christopher Shultz) of Stratford. Beloved mother of James C. Brewer of Naugatuck, CT. Devoted grandmother to Ryan Shultz and his wife Emily, Courtney Shultz, Samantha Shultz, Kaycie Brewer, James Brewer and great grandmother to Londyn Brewer. She cherished her grandchildren with a passion. They were her pride and joy through the years. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 28th at Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford from 5-7pm. Her wish is for a private family burial.
