Obituary

Maxwell, Rosemary, age 65, of Milford, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2012.Mrs. Maxwell was born in Bridgeport, a daughter of the late Michael and Anna Sincak Jenci. She was the wife of the late Carl Maxwell who passed away in 1972 when their daughter was 2 years old and son was 4 months old. Rose and Carl met when she was serving a four-year tour in the United States Air Force, and he was on his 2nd four year tour as a mechanic for jet fighers. While in the service they were able to get leave time and come back to Connecticut to marry at St. John's Orthodox Church bringing some of their Air Force service friends to join in the happy celebration. When her tour was completed Rose was honorably discharged and about a year later so was Carl and they went to live in Ohio. Rose was a loving mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family, friends and everyone who knew her. She is survived by her devoted children, daughter Margaret and partner Kevin Moorer of West Haven and son Daniel, wife Lisa and sons Carl and Daniel, Jr. of Milford. Her cherished grandsons were the light of her world and they always had her love and support and she had theirs. She loved to go and cheer for them at their games, attend their school functions and take them on day trips with Auntie Margaret. The days spent with her children and grandchildren were treasured memories and she enjoyed sharing the events and showing us the photos. Also survivors include sisters Agnes Jankura of Shelton, Lillian Jenci of Stratford, brothers Frank Jenci and wife Carol of Stratford, Thomas Jenci and wife Joanne of Milford, Nicholas Jenci of Watertown, Michael Jenci and wife Rosalie of California; Godson Keith Jenci, wife Dawn and daughter Stella Ann; Sister-in-law MaryLouise and her husband Darrell Ridenour of Pennsylvania and fourteen loving nieces and nephews. We will always have memories of the wonderful family social get-togethers including trivia board games as well as the special Christmas and Easter dinners at her home filled with laughter and family remembrances of our childhood. She was a graduate of Bunnell High School, a graduate of Housatonic Community College & of the Highest Degree from Southern Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Science (Honors) Degree in Mathematics and in History. Rose was an innovative Mathematics Teacher of 22 years at Harding High School until her retirement in 2007. While teaching her projects and awards included several years as Advisor for the Stock Market Game which is a statewide 10 week contest. In 1993 one of her teams ranked first in the State of Connecticut defeating 1,553 teams in the high school category. In 1990 she received the Celebration of Excellence Award for Curriculum Projects. It salutes Connecticut teachers who have achieved the supreme art of teaching in the finest tradition of innovation and inspiration. Her project was entitled "Designing and Buying Your Dream House". In 1992 she was a recipient of a Public Education Mini Grant for the use of publications to enhance math learning. In 1992-1993 Rose was chosen Teacher of the Year for the City of Bridgeport and honored at a dinner sponsored by the Rotary Club. She also received a Certificate for Outstanding Teacher for 1993-1994 from Tandy Technical Scholars. She held various Workshops across Connecticut and Massachusetts, which included Classroom Management, Mathematics Across the Curriculum, Computers, CAPT Test and using newspapers in the classroom. Rose also was a speaker at the New England Publishers Association meeting as well as a Guest Lecturer at Fairfield University on the subject of the value of newspapers in education. In 1991 an article she wrote was published in the Connecticut Mathematics Journal. Her roles in the Milford community included involvement in her daughter's Brownie troop and son's Baseball,Basketball and Scouting and in 1982 Co-chairing the Cub Scout Circus. Her church involvement included being the first Junior "R" Club President for Chapter 180-J of the Federated Orthodox Clubs; Junior District Lt. Governor, Senior "R" Club President, Vice President and Chairperson of many breakfasts, sports activities, picnics, 1990 and 1993 Cabaret Variety Shows and giving of her experience and time to help in the St. John's Sunday School activities and Church Christmas Fairs. Rose also was Chairlady for 35 years of the Religious bookstore one of the fundraising projects of the St. John's Sr. "R" Club Scholarship which benefited many students and parishioners, a member of the Mothers & Daughters Club and Senior Citizens of St. John's Orthodox Church. She was always willing to give of her talents and time to help her family, students, and friends even though she had her own medical issues including Crohn's and heart problems throughout her life. Rose was an amazing woman and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Vincent's Hospital, homecare nurses and physical therapists for their medical care and caring and her friends for their love and support. A Requiem Funeral Service will take place Friday May 11, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist 364 Mill Hill Ave Bridgeport. Interment with Full Military Honor will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford. In Lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations in Rose's to St. John's Sr. R Club Scholarship Fund. At the family's request calling hours have been omitted.
