Rose Barius, age 100, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 4, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter Barius, to whom she was married for 70 years.
Rose was born in Lithuania on May 2, 1925, to Liudas and Rosalia Jotkus. She and her late husband Walter immigrated to the United States in 1949 after WWII. They lived in Hudson, NY and settled in Bridgeport, CT where they raised their family.
Rose was an active member of St. George Catholic Church in the South end of Bridgeport for many years and was a member of Council 141 Knights of Lithuania and various other Lithuanian organizations in Bridgeport and Juno Beach, Florida. She and her husband enjoyed spending many winters in Lake Worth, FL and annual summer vacations in Kennebunkport, Maine.
She is survived by her son Edward (Angela) and her daughter Aldona (Louis), grandsons Christian and Justin (Emily). Her great granddaughters Vivianne, Alice, Rose and Marlowe brought her so much happiness and she looked forward to their visits. Also surviving her is her sister Kaze Petronaitiene, a very special niece Audrone Kvedaraviciene, many other nieces and nephews and step grandsons. In addition to her parents and her husband she was predeceased by her son Raymond, her brother Liudas and three sisters.
The family wishes to acknowledge the compassionate care provided by Vitas Hospice, especially her nurse Marisa.
A celebration of Rose’s life will take place in the Spring at a time to be determined.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Adzima Funeral Home- Stratford.
