Obituary

Ron Pavluvcik has kicked the bucket. He died on Tuesday, December 4 at age 71 after a 10-year battle with prostate cancer. It didn't help that in later years he was a bit overweight, and loved his junk foods, especially pizza. Ron was a colorful and eclectic person with many interests and curiosities that caused him to investigate and try new things. While most of his working years were spent as a computer analyst and project manager, he also took on many part-time jobs such as stereo salesman, coffee shop clerk, gas station clerk, and private investigator. His favorite was most recently when working as a driving instructor from 2007 until 2018. Ron grew up in Stratford in the Slovak neighborhood surrounding Holy Name of Jesus Church.  He was a smart kid whose classmates gave him the nickname Einstein. He went on to be an honor student at Fairfield Prep, Class of 1965. He then earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from UConn and an MBA degree from UB. He taught math at Harding High School for two years, and he also taught business classes at several local colleges. The highlight of his life was getting a private pilot's license at age 40, and flying his Cessna airplane around the northeast for about 20 years. He loved to travel, and explore new places, and he got to visit 49 states between vacations and business trips as a computer consultant. He had several friends in Europe and he toured many countries there from about 15 commercial flights over the Atlantic. Ireland was his favorite vacation spot. As a teenager he obtained a ham radio license and communicated with other hams around the USA and world. This gave him a gift of gab that made him outgoing and conversational with anyone who would listen. He spoke at over 100 town hall meetings in Stratford and Shelton where he lived most of his life, usually in favor of fiscal responsibility and low taxes. Ron was a volunteer for numerous organizations. He most enjoyed his time spent with the Sikorsky Archives Museum, the National Helicopter Museum, and the Connecticut Air and Space Center - all located in Stratford. He will be buried at St. John's Cemetery in Stratford at his parents' gravesite, not far from his hero Igor Sikorsky who is also buried there. Ron's parents were Stephen and Josephine Pavluvcik. He was looking forward to seeing them again in Heaven. He is survived by his brother Tom who lives in St. Petersburg Florida with his wife Esperanza, his sister Janice Lizotte who lives in Milford, niece Amy Myers from Hampstead Maryland with her husband Greg and their children Noah, Lindsay, and Jackson, a special niece and godchild Megan Lizotte of Burlington, and her two daughters Madeline and Analiese, and lastly his little dog Ralph. He was blessed with a wonderful extended family and many friends, who will probably miss him dearly. Ron played a lot of golf over the years, especially with his dad, but unlike his dad he could never get a hole in one. Yet he had a lot of fun trying. His other interests included riding motorcycles and oldies music. He kept a Hammond organ at his residence that he played for relaxation. At Christmas, he would bring a portable keyboard and play carols at parties. For all of these things, he will be missed by many. A memorial service to honor Ron's life will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, December 11 th in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford. Friends may visit with Ron's family prior to the service, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Inurnment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in honor of his beloved mother, Josephine.
