Obituary

Roderick A. Vecsey, age 54, passed away peacefully at Bridgeport Hospital on October 21, surrounded by loving family. Rod was born on January 26, 1960, son of the late Eleanor Vecsey, and lived in Monroe for over 20 years before returning to his hometown of Stratford. As a self-taught artist, Rod held various interesting positions in the world of art including billboard artist with Barrett Outdoor Communications and Gannett Outdoor Advertising and in the wax department of Cavalier Renaissance Art Foundry in Bridgeport. There, he contributed to works including the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC (Three Soldiers), models for the restoration of Mount Rushmore as well as works by renowned sculptors Reuben Nakian and Frederic Remington. He also held a CT real estate license, worked in the paint department at Home Depot and, in his most recent years, Rod was a conductor for Metro North Railroad. Rod, 'Roddy,' was happiest when in the kitchen or the yard. He had a great love for animals of all kinds and the outdoors. He had a special fondness for traveling, one of his favorite trips being backpacking through Europe after graduating high school. He is the beloved father of two daughters, Kaelin and Marissa Vecsey of Newtown. He also leaves a beloved sister, Shirley Roberts, and brother in law, Scott Roberts, of Derby as well as nieces Corri Davies and Samantha Roberts, nephew David Roberts, great niece Jessica Davies and dear friend Franco Buzan. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation, Inc. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on October 28 at 10AM at St. Mark Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull. Calling hours have been omitted. The Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
