March 4, 1940 – February 14, 2025
Robert Allen Zych, 84, of Stratford, CT, died peacefully at home with his wife of 60 years by his side. He was born in Chicago, Ill in 1940 to Francis and Petronella Zych (Esczuk), joining brothers Eddie and Rich with Kenny completing the family in 1942.
Robert was a 1958 graduate of the former Gordon Tech High School in Chicago, now known as DePaul College Preparatory School. He proudly represented his alma mater on the basketball court. Shortly following his high school graduation, he joined IBM's Chicago branch office in 1958 and worked his way up the corporate ladder before retiring after 55 years in upper management. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1962 where he served 2 years as a radio operator. In his retirement he enjoyed fishing at Wolf Park in Monroe, CT, cheering for the UCONN Women's Basketball team, and most of all he loved being his granddaughter Alina's unofficial ice hockey coach.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Eddie (Kulas), Kenneth, and Richard. He is survived by his wife Peggy (Valek), son Thomas and his partner Christine Contreras, daughters Deborah, Jennifer (Douglas) Lipinsky, and granddaughter Alina Marie Lipinsky.
Visitation on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 4-7 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 21st at 9:30 a.m. meeting directly at St. Mark Church 500 Wigwam Lane Stratford. Interment with full military honors will follow at Mountain Grove of Easton Cemetery.
