IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert J.
Staffey
December 29, 1934 – August 12, 2023
Robert Staffey, beloved husband of Jayne Staffey, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on August 12, 2023.
The son of Adam and Mary Pivarnik Staffey, he was born on December 29, 1934, in Fairfield. Bob, as he was affectionately known, led a life marked by honorable service, hard work, and cherished hobbies.
After attending Central High School, Bob joined the Army. He fondly recalled his travels with the military throughout the US and his time stationed in France. Following his military service, Bob embarked on a career as a pipefitter, working at a number of companies that were a part of Bridgeport's industrial heyday, including Bullard's, Bridgeport Brass, and Jenkins Valves. At each, he was known for his dedication and hard work. After his retirement from Handy & Harman, Bob went to work for Securitas. In his 20 years there, his favorite assignments included Remington Woods and Sacred Heart University. At SHU he cherished his time assisting students.
Outside of work, Bob enjoyed a number of hobbies. He was an outdoorsman who loved fishing and camping. His green thumb yielded bumper crops from his garden each summer. Bob will be remembered as a Renaissance man and lifelong learner. He read constantly and could be counted on to enlighten holiday guests about a forgotten moment in history. He was a music lover who spent many nights listening to symphony concerts and operas.
Bob was known as a stylish dresser who attended church in a jacket and tie or his latest purchase from his beloved LL Bean, often wearing his signature fedora. When lockdowns limited his movements, he could be spotted dressed to the nines walking Jax, the latest of his many canine companions.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Bobby and Ken and a daughter, Susan, all of Bridgeport. He was an uncle to Anthony and Robert Ciofani and Lisa Jones and honorary grandfather to Leya Kayas. He was predeceased by his sister, Arline Ciofani and her husband Tony and a daughter, Barbara Jayne, who died shortly after birth.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers of Bridgeport Hospital, Lord Chamberlain, Stratford VNA and Accent Care who helped Bob during his recent illness. We are grateful to Tina, Aaliyah, Lorna, Shenaya, and Dorothy Tyler who took such good care of Bob at home and all those who called or visited in recent weeks. Special thanks to Beverly Kaplanka who cooked for the family in recent months.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 17th at 10 am meeting directly at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1950 Barnum Avenue, Stratford. Mourners may meet the family prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Michael's cemetery. The Adzima Funeral Home- Stratford has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
To honor Bob's memory, do something you love with the people you care about. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Name of Jesus Church, where Bob was longtime parishioner, https://www.osvhub.com/hnojchurch/giving/funds.
