Obituary

Robert Anthony Santo, 85, of Stratford, husband of the late Hinda Santo, passed away October 5, 2022.  Bob was born in Bridgeport, CT, on January 20, 1937, and was the loving son of Rose (Izzo) and Ernest Santo. He grew up in the South End of Bridgeport across from Seaside Park and graduated from Bassick High School.

Bob played baseball and basketball in many leagues, and at Bassick High School. He had tryouts with the Boston Braves and Chicago White Sox. He later played slow pitch softball on several teams.

Bob was a true patriot and loved the U.S.A. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserves. Bob followed in his family's footsteps and became a bricklayer and member of Local 1 Bricklayers Union in Bridgeport and Local 1 CT. He worked for many contractors including Fusco and Amatruda. Bob often pointed out, with pride, the countless buildings and homes he worked on. Bob helped many including with the construction of the Pony League Field House at Clover Field.

Bob coached for many years with Raybestos/Stratford Little League, Rams/Stratford Pop Warner, Carroll's Sport Shop/Stratford Pony League, and helped Walt Czekaj with Stratford High School Football. Bob was a longtime member of the Stratford Old Timer's Athletic Association.

Bob and his beloved wife Hinda, who passed in June 2021, at which time they had been married for 61 years, enjoyed dining out, and spending time with family and many friends. Bob loved his vegetable garden, working in his yard, and cooking. Bob loved all sports, and especially loved the NY Yankees, NY Giants, and Boston Celtics. Bob was a devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather. He found great joy in supporting and attending his children's and grandchildren's many sporting events and activities and could often be heard from the sidelines.

Bob was a perfectionist in his work and in all that he did. Having diabetes, and later in life, one leg, and being in a wheelchair did not slow him down. His work ethic was second to none, and he set a great example to all.

Bob will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. He was predeceased by his loving wife Hinda, and his parents. Bob's devoted family include his son Robbie Santo (Maria), daughter Debbie Bogdwicz (Joe), grandchildren Bobby Santo (Alana), Rachel Santo, Jessica Bogdwicz, Brett Bogdwicz, siblings Frank, Ernie, and Carol, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.

Bob's children would like to thank the caregivers at Bridgeport Hospital, The Watermark, and Yale New Haven Hospital for their care.
