IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert C.
Russo
March 24, 1933 – November 16, 2024
Robert "Carmine" Russo, born on March 24, 1933, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024, after a battle with cancer. Robert was predeceased by his parents, John and Elvira Russo, and 10 of his 11 siblings. He is survived by his brother, Anthony Russo, whom he lived with for most of his life. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Rosalie Russo.
Robert enjoyed the company of the family at parties and holidays and was always a sought-after teammate when playing board games. He was a devoted fan of the New York Giants baseball and football teams, and in later years, supported the Mets. He enjoyed taking walks, sometimes for hours at a time. His intellect was evident through his wit and comedic remarks. He enjoyed a wide range of music, including music from the big band era and Italian opera.
A United States Army Veteran, he served in several capacities during the Korean War, including as an Italian language translator. Robert spent his later years in Connecticut but was a longtime Bronx resident where both he and his brother Anthony always had an open-door policy for their siblings, nieces, and nephews in need of a temporary place to stay. This stopover provided a warm and loving environment as their guests planned for the rest of their lives.
Robert was a joy to us all. His presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him, including numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. He will always live in our hearts and memories.
The family wishes to express our gratitude to the staff at Mozaic Senior Life for their loving care and affection given to both Robert and his brother Anthony.
Robert will be cremated and interred at Woodlawn Cemetery in a private ceremony.
If you were touched by this good-natured man, you can make a donation in his honor to any of the many charities supporting Veterans.
