Robert H. Barlow, age 92, the beloved husband of the late Joan Sheridan Barlow, passed away peacefully at his home in Stratford, CT on February 12, 2025.

Bob was born on February 2, 1933, in Glen Ridge, New Jersey to the late Henry J. and Marion (Maslowsky) Barlow and grew up in Bloomfield, New Jersey. After graduating as a Mechanical Engineer from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1953, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force and served at Griffiss AFB in Rome, NY. It was during his time at Griffiss that he met the love of his life Joan Sheridan, and they were married for an amazing 48 years until her death.

After the Air Force, Bob started a 42-year career with Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, and over the course of his career worked on various helicopter programs for the US, Greek and Taiwanese militaries as well as Sikorsky's commercial helicopter business. During his time with Sikorsky he had the opportunity to travel to 25 countries and developed a love of travel and experiencing other cultures that continued well after he retired. After retiring Bob served on the Board of Trustees at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY, his wife Joan's alma mater, and as an ardent believer in continuing education he eventually established a scholarship in Joan's memory.

Bob was also able to travel to more than 30 countries during his retirement years and would create detailed photo journals of every aspect of his trip within days after he returned home. He had a passion for reading and was a regular patron of the Stratford Library. Many years he would read over 80 books and then proudly share his annual "Books Read List" with his children and grandchildren.

The only thing Bob loved more than travel and reading were his seven grandchildren. He would do whatever he could to attend their sports games, dance recitals, first communions and graduations. He was so proud of them and grateful he could see them all grow up to become amazing young adults.

Survivors include his children, Mark Barlow of Keene, NH, Christopher Barlow and his wife Deborah of Trumbull, CT,  Robert Barlow and his wife Susan of Anthem, AZ,  James Barlow and his wife Carolyn of Darien, CT, and Sara Van Etten and her husband Andy of Stratford, CT; grandchildren Andrew, Amanda, Alexander, Hannah, Annaliese, Samantha and Robert John ("Jack"), and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife Joan, Bob was predeceased by his brother, Richard Barlow and sisters, Geraldine Smalley and Dorothy Mazzella.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Mark Church 500 Wigwam Lane Stratford. Inurnment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Monroe.
