Richard J. Kopchyak, age 81, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Maryanna Kochiss Kopchyak, passed away on January 14, 2016 in his home. Richard, a forty-year member of the Connecticut Army National Guard, retiring in 1992, was born in Bridgeport to the late Peter P. and Mary (Palo) Kopchyak and has been a life long area resident. He received his BS from Fairfield University and his Masters in Engineering from Bridgeport Engineering Institute (BEI) and was the retired proprietor of Fairfield County Sprinkler Company. Richard was a member of the Engineering Society, and was a Justice of the Peace. He was a devout Catholic, and a Eucharistic Minister at St. Pius X in Fairfield. Survivors in addition to his beloved wife include his devoted children, Adam Kopchyak and his wife Robyn of Hebron, and Lisa Kopchyak of Fairfield, 4 cherished granddaughters, Krystal Lyn, Ashley Elizabeth, Haley Katherine, and Keira Nicole, a sister, Irene Menard of Stratford, 2 nephews, Keith Menard (Marie), and Kevin Menard (Connie). In addition to his parents he was pre-deceased by his son Neil. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 23rd at 10 a.m. meeting directly at St. Pius X Church 834 Brookside Drive Fairfield. Military Honors will take place immediately following the Mass. Inturnment in St. John's Cemetery will be private. At the family's request calling hours have been omitted. The Adzima Funeral Home Stratford has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations in memory of Richard to St. Pius X Building Fund.
