Richard A. Hansen Sr., age 80, of Stratford passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2012 in Milford Hospital. Richard, a retired machinist and Teamster, was born in Spain to the late Antonio C. Sanchez and Irene Hansen Sanchez and was a long-time area resident. He was a Certified Nursing Assistant, Valedictorian of the Class of 1992. He was an Usher at St John Nepomucene Church and was an avid hunter and a lover of outdoors activity. One of his proudest accomplishments, aside from his family, was constructing a log cabin by hand during his yearly summer vacations with his family in Vermont. His skills as a fixer-upper were legend and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. Richard will be remembered most for his phenomenal interest in all world events, which led to lively conversations and stimulating debates. Survivors include his two loving and caring daughters Christine Brown and her husband Moe of Stratford, Susan Emmons and her husband Dr. Robert of South Duxbury, Vermont and a son Richard Hansen and his wife Karen of Shelton, his cherished grandchildren Frank David, James Karpicky, Rebecca and Sarah Drapp and Richard Hansen; and great grandchildren Tye and Tiana Karpicky. A brother Anthony Sanchez and his wife Tina, and a sister Irene Gasparini and husband Dom all of Milford, and an extended family of sisters and brothers-in-law and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife Veronica Samudosky Hansen. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on October 12, 2012 at 11:00 am. in Our Lady of Grace Church 498 Second Hill Lane, Stratford. Interment will be private. A celebration reception will follow; instructions will be dispensed at the service. Funeral services and interment were private and have been entrusted to the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford.
