Raymond Heffernan, age 86, of Stratford, passed away in his home on April 9, 2017. He was born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Ann and Raymond Heffernan of Tuscon, Arizona. Ray enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp and served through its transition to the United States Air Force and held the rank of Corporal. He was a Bridgeport firefighter for over twenty years, retiring as a Lieutenant. Ray volunteered with VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) for ten years, and managed the Stratford, CT site. Survivors include his wife of sixty-six years, Dorothy Heffernan, his sister, Peggy Kelly and her husband Fred of AZ, his son, James Heffernan and daughter Patricia both of Stratford, along with several nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, also, a special friend of Raymond and James, Shirley Gabinelli, who shared most enjoyable times, birthdays, holidays, and cookouts. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday April 18 ^th at 10:30 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, and at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Monday from 5-7 p.m.
