2:00 - 4:00 pm (Eastern time)
Raymond Edgar Grandchamp, age 89, of Sandy Hook, previously of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. He was the devoted husband of the late MaryAnn (Freidhoff) Grandchamp, with whom he shared 57 years of love, partnership, and family life.
He was born on October 17, 1936, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, to the late Rosamond and Lorraine (Bigelow) Grandchamp.
Ray believed in education and lifelong learning, values that guided him in both his personal and professional life. He graduated from Assumption Preparatory School in Worcester, MA, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a Master of Education from Springfield College, and later earned an MBA from the University of Rochester. Ray proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Ray had a long and meaningful career in healthcare administration where he began as the Director of Group Activities at St. Joseph’s Villa in Rochester, NY, then worked with the Rochester Regional Red Cross Program, and later served as Assistant Director of Inpatient Operations at Strong Memorial Hospital. His work culminated at St.Vincent’s Medical Center, where he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer until his retirement- a role he approached with integrity. His work in healthcare continued post- retirement when he helped to establish a medical consulting firm, Medical Advantage, Inc.
Ray and MaryAnn were married on July 15, 1961, and remained lovingly committed until her death in 2019. Family vacations to Block Island, RI became cherished traditions, as did their many memorable trips to Italy, a place they both loved. Ray loved cooking, listening to jazz and spending time with his family and friends. One of his greatest joys was seeing his children and grandchildren genuinely enjoy one another’s company- laughing, joking and “horsing around,” as he liked to say.
Ray is survived by his loving children, David Grandchamp, wife Barbara, and grandchildren, Alexander, Douglas and Lauren from Glastonbury, Matthew Grandchamp, wife Lynn and grandchildren, Gabrielle and Jack from Trumbull, Celina (Grandchamp) Heyliger, husband Steve and grandsons, Jeremiah and Samuel from Whitefield, NH and Lisa Grandchamp and grandson, Elias formerly from Alaska. He is also survived by his sister, Lorraine Johnson and a nephew, Mark Johnson and wife Shari of San Diego, CA. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, Ray was predeceased by his grandson, Zachary Dubriske, whom he held forever in his heart.
Friends may greet the family on Sunday, January 11th from 2-4 pm in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford. Military Honors will be given at 3:45pm. The family requests for those who desire, in lieu of flowers, to please consider making a donation in Ray’s memory to the Jimmy Fund www.jimmyfund.org/
