Obituary

Peter J. Stapleton, age 79, of Trumbull, beloved husband of Michele Dirgo Stapleton, passed away on June 27, 2021, in his home after a long battle with cancer.

Peter was born in Worsley, England on May 17, 1942, to the late John and Edith (Sidebotham) Stapleton and had been a longtime Connecticut resident of 53 years.  After attending Bolton School, a prestigious British public school, he earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Keele, North Staffordshire, England, in quantum mechanics. In 1968 he was recruited by Blue Cross/Blue Shield to work in their computer department in New Haven.  In 2001, Peter retired from being a computer consultant for Scudder Kemper Co. of New York City.

He was an active member of St. Albans Masonic Lodge #38, Branford, and many other York Rite and Scottish Rite Masonic Fraternities.  In college, Peter was an avid runner, chess player, and judo team member.  After he retired, he studied fine arts at Gateway Community College and created many fine drawings, oil paintings sculptures, and photographs.  He liked to cook Indian and Slovak food, venison stew, and brew beer in his basement.  Recently, his favorite entertainment was enjoying a day out to Mohegan Sun.

Survivors, in addition to his beloved wife of 35 years include his sister, Judith Daniels of Brighton, England and his daughters, Candida M. McKay of South Windsor, CT. and Annie L. Stapleton of Palo Alto, CA.  Peter has five grandchildren:  Natalie and Benjamin Krebs and Calvin, Clinton, and Magnolia Mae Stapleton Crady.

The family would like to thank the fine staff of The Connecticut Hospice for their care and compassion.

Funeral arrangements are private and have been entrusted to the Adzima Funeral Home-Stratford.  In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society in Peter's memory.
