Peter Skirkanich, age 83 of Stratford passed away on Thursday May 11, 2006 in Bridgeport Hospital. Mr. Skirkanich, a WW #2 Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving as a 1st Class Seaman aboard the LST 373 during the invasion of Normandy, was born in Bridgeport to the late Michael and Suzanne (Kerpchar) Skirkanich and has been a life long area resident. He was a retired engine assembler for Avco-Lycoming and prior to that a he had worked as a parts manager for the F.L. Mills Company of Bridgeport for many years, he was a life long devout member of the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist and was a member of their Seniors, a former church officer and past president of the Male Chorus and Father's and Son's Club, he was also a member of the Baldwin Center and Avco Seniors. He loved to listen to liturgical music, play pinochle and dance. Survivors include his beloved wife Mary Wojnagi Skirkanich, his devoted children Patricia Le Belle and her husband Gilman, Ronald Skirkanich and his wife Nancy all of Shelton and Janet Stupak and her husband James of Fairfield, 2 cherished granddaughters Emily Le Belle and Courtney Stupak, 1 brother Andrew Skirkanich of Milford and 1 sister Helen Jankowski and her husband Henry of Stratford and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by 2 brothers John and Michael. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday May 16th at 9:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10 a.m. in the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist for a Requiem Funeral Service. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call on Monday from 4-8 p.m. Panachida on Monday at 4:30 p.m. Those desiring may make donations to St. John's Church Restoration fund or to the sound system fund.
