IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Peter
Colon
March 20, 1949 – November 2, 2025
Peter Colon, age 76, of Stratford, formerly of New York, beloved husband of Catherine L. Colon, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025. Peter was born in Puerto Rico on March 20, 1949, and had been a longtime New York resident prior to moving to Stratford in 2020.
Peter was the youngest of seven children, born to Guillermina and Carmelo Colon. He had 2 brothers, Carmelo and Luis, and four sisters, Carmen, Gladys, Alexandria, and Elsa. His mom was a seamstress in a bathing suit factory, and she would sometimes bring him to work with her. To keep him busy they would pay him to sweep the floor. At a young age he learned he could help the family out and pay his own way to the movies, which he loved to do. He enjoyed riding in the front car of a train and looking out the window while imagining he was the conductor. As a teenager he loved singing acapella with his friends, like in the movies. They named themselves "The Charmers". As an adult he loved singing with his family and friends.
During Peter's time in the Army, he fought bravely in Vietnam and earned two Bronze Stars. He also became very good at playing Ping Pong and let us know he was a champion. When he returned home, he began working for UPS in New York and took a turn at almost every position they had until he became a Driver. There he stopped and stayed because he loved driving and meeting new people. After leaving UPS he moved on to an ambulette company called Access-A-Ride and became their Dispatcher and Driver Trainer. He was able to put to good use all his knowledge of the city streets and NYC rules and regulations.
Peter was very proud of his four children and happy they are pursuing their chosen endeavors. He was also proud of the people they chose to be their marriage partners and become part of our family. He deeply loved all of them. A neighbor said Peter was loved by all who knew him, and he will always be remembered for his heartfelt response of "I Love You More".
Survivors in addition to his beloved wife of 48 years include his devoted children, Miguel Maya, Carolyn (Frank) Ortega, James (Michelle) Colon, and Anita (Dirk) Colon-Kiprik, 5 cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Emily, Ethan, Alyssa, and Sofia, a sister, Elsa and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Peter was pre-deceased by his siblings: Carmelo, Carmen, Luis, Alexandria, and Gladys.
Visitation on Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 2-5 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford. Prayer service at 04:45p.m. Burial in State Veterans Cemetery Middletown will be private.
