Obituary

Pearl Welehorsky Nucifora, the widow of Dominic Nucifora, reposed in the Lord on Saturday, April 25, 2015 in Anne Arundel MC, Annapolis, Maryland. Pearl was born in Bridgeport on January 22, 1926, the daughter of the late Mary (Hossofsky) and Nicholas Welehorsky. A life long area resident, she moved from Milford, CT to Arnold, MD in March of 2014. Pearl was a graduate of Harding High School and the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing. She became one of the first nurse-anesthetists in the area, worked at Bridgeport Hospital until her retirement in 1988, and was instrumental in training others in their careers, and was an original member of the CNAA. She was a lifelong parishioner of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. Mary's Protection in Bridgeport, having served in many capacities, including as president of the church committee. She sang in the choir and was an officer and member of the St. Mary's Sisterhood, and was also a member of the Orthodox Women's Council. She was honored to serve, as a delegate for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA. A highlight in her life was an audience with Patriarch Bartholomew in Constantinople, where she traveled with her cousins. Pearl was most happy with her family and her friends, writing pysanky, baking paska, and passing on her Ukrainain heritage. She is survived by her sons, Gregory (Kathy) with whom she resided in Arnold, MD, and Richard (Eve) of Milford, her grandchildren, Jenn Maroney of Albany, NY, Denise (Daniel) Moller of Ruston, LA, Natalie of Arnold, MD, and Dominic (Liz) of Arnold, MD, her greatgrandsons, Zachary, Maxwell, and Nathaniel Moller of Ruston, LA, her niece JoAnn (Richard) Strovers of Milford, several special cousins and many nieces and nephews in the Nucifora family. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Olga Bednarski, and brother, Ben Welehorsky.. Friends and family are invited to attend her funeral service at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. Mary's Protection, 10 Oakwood Street, Bridgeport, at 10am on Saturday, May 2nd. Calling hours will be at the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford on Friday, May 1st from 4 to 7 pm. Panyheda will be at 6:30 p.m.
