Paul J. Gabriel Jr., age 91, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of 68 years to the late Muriel T. De Silvestro Gabriel, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 in St. Joseph's Manor, Trumbull. Paul, a retired produce manager for A&P Market, was born in Bridgeport on May 18, 1924, to the late Paul J. Gabriel Sr. and Rose DeRosa Gabriel and has been a life long area resident. He served his country proudly during WW II earning five major Battle Stars while involved in the Invasion of Normandy (Omaha Beach) on June 6, 1944. Paul also served in England, France, Germany and Belgium, as a driver for Press Correspondent Ernie Pyle, during the Battle of the Bulge. He appeared on the November 24, 1944 cover of Life Magazine. Paul was also proud of meeting and shaking hands with General "Ike" Eisenhower while stationed with the Army in Belgium. Survivors include a beloved daughter, Rosemary Gabriel Sierer of Trumbull, 2 cherished grandchildren, Christopher A. Sierer and his wife Christie, and Pamela Digirolamo and her husband Robert, five great-grandchildren, Ashley, Anthony, Brittney, Lindsey and Stephanie, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Paul was predeceased by his son, Paul J. Gabriel, and brothers, Victor and Joseph. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 24th at 11:00AM directly in St Theresa's Church, 5301 Main Street, Trumbull. Entombment with full military honors will take place in St. Michael's Cemetery Garden Mausoleum Stratford.
