Patrick J. Hunter Sr., age 85, of Stratford, beloved husband of Mildred Powell Hunter, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2015 in St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport. Patrick, a Korean War Veteran of the U.S. Army was born in Elberton, Georgia to the late Andrew and Almeder (Heard) Hunter, and has been along time Stratford resident. He received his BA and MS from the University of Bridgeport, and was a PhD candidate at New York University. Patrick worked as a case worker for the Connecticut Department of Social Services, the Bridgeport Inter-Group Council CT, serving as Executive Director from 1963-66, Community on Training Employment Stamford, CT as Executive Director 1966-68, A Psychology Professor at Housatonic Community College, where he was a founder and Department Chairman from 1975-81. He was a member of the Rotary International- Bridgeport, United Way of Greater Bridgeport, SW Connecticut Mental Health Board, serving as President 1986-1987, member of the Board of Directors for the State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health, Greater Bridgeport Catchment Area Council, Greater Bridgeport Regional Mental Health Advisory Board, and former Vice President of the Mental Health Social Club. Patrick received the Citizen of the Year award from the Col. Charles Young Post in 1963, and the Achievement Award for an outstanding educator from Radio Station WICC. Survivors in addition to his wife include his devoted children, Patrick Hunter Jr of Stratford, Kim M. Brown of New Haven, Dr. Michael Hunter and his wife Kyoko of WA, and Jeffrey Hunter and his wife Ronekki of Stratford, 12 grandchildren, siblings, Ella (William) Giles, Bruce (Eliza) Hunter, Joseph (Maria) Hunter, Debra Hunter, Richard Allen Lake, and William Sally, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by a sister Mary (William) Tisdale. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 21st at 11 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford. Interment will be private. Friends may call on Saturday from 10-11.
