Nicholas G. Mongillo, age 74, of Shelton, beloved husband of Barbara Washaleski Mongillo, passed away on March 29, 2017 in Lord Chamberlain Health Center in Stratford after a courageous battle with cancer. Nick was born in Bridgeport on October 4, 1942 to the late Dominic and Bernice (Flathers) Mongillo and has been a life long area resident. Nick spent 55 years working at Sikorsky Aircraft; first as a Sikorsky employee from 1961-1999, then as a Butler Aerospace Consultant from 1999-present. Nick proudly referred to himself as a Sikorsky "Dinosaur" represented by the fact that he and his high school educated coworkers started at Sikorsky as teenagers, worked hard, learned a trade, provided for their families, and became the helicopter manufacturer's factory leadership as they rose through the blue collar ranks. Survivors in addition to his beloved wife of 55 years include his devoted children, Nicholas Mongillo and his wife Jacqueline of Texas, Robin Mongillo and Karen Mongillo both of Milford, four cherished grandchildren, Lauren and Kellie Mongillo, and Kristen and Zack Passaro, sister-in-law Patricia Washaleski of Shelton, nephew James Washaleski of Bridgeport, niece Patricia Ann Washaleski Mino of East Haven, brother Robert Mongillo of Seymour, four sisters including Elaine Kristie and her husband Edward of Monroe, Carol McGovern of Shelton, Marilyn Shaw and her husband Bernard of Shelton, Diane Cataudella and her husband Vincent of Shelton, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Nick was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Mongillo, and brother-in-law, Jack McGovern. Friends may greet Nick's family on Tuesday April 4 th from 4-7 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford. A prayer service will take place at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations in memory of Nick to the American Cancer Society 825 Brook St Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
