Obituary

Nemours Alfonso Michel of Bridgeport, Connecticut, gained his heavenly wings on May 18, 2024 surrounded by his family.

Nemours, fondly known as Papi, was born to Lina Romeo and Edner Michel on March 13, 1937, in Fort Liberte, Haiti. In 1962, he moved to Freeport, Grand Bahama and worked for BTC phone company. It was while he was in the Bahamas, he discovered pro wrestling and became a lifelong fan in which he passed on to his daughters and his grandsons, which has now become a family tradition. In 1973, Nemours became a member of Ishtar #402 Lodge of Freeport, Grand Bahama under Mecca Grand Lodge #377. In 1974, Nemours moved to Montreal, Canada where at a party he ran into Solange Constant (sister-in-law) which gave him the number to Yvette Constant and the rest is history.

Yvette and Nemours reconnected and were married on August 16, 1975, in Brooklyn NY. They had 4 daughters Shirley, Caroll, Sandra and Yvette. Nemours became a charter member of Cornerstone Grand Lodge and Gabreves Lodge #130 where he served as Worshipful Master for Gabreves Lodge #130 and Grand Master for Cornerstone Grand Lodge. Nemours was the lifelong Worthy Patron of Adah Chapter #156 & Ayanna Areme Chapter #129. He also served as Grand Worthy Patron for Esther Grand Chapter. Nemours Michel was an active member of Modern Free & Accepted Mason for 51 years.

Papi loved his family and would have his girls, nieces, and nephews with him on Saturday mornings to cook and watching Ku Fu movies along with Pro Wrestling. During the summertime on Saturday mornings, Nemours would include bus trips to Bear Mountain also a trip to Brooklyn to eat Chinese food at our favorite Chinese restaurant. Nemours was affectionately named Papi Nemours or Papi by his sister-In-law Adeline. He was also called this by many of the sisters and brothers of the order. Papi loved to have a good time with his family, friends and his Masonic, OES brothers and sisters.  Papi lived a full and beautiful life. Papi is survived by his wife Yvette and his daughters: Shirley, Caroll, partner Marvin, Sandra, son in law Ricardo, and little Yvette. He is survived by his grandchildren: Carl, Christopher, Bayleigh, DJ, Ana, Nicholas, Jared, Amari, and Lena. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Alora, and Christopher JR.  Papi is also survived by his sister, Yvanne Romeo Duval, and her husband, Gerard Duval, Sister-in law Adeline Constant and brother in-law Robert Constant; sister-in-law Claudette, Paula, and Jeanne Constant along with his host of nieces and nephews which Papi loved very much. Papi was predeceased by his parents, Edner, Lina, and his brother Willy.

We, the family, would like to thank Saint Vincent Hospital, Dr. Hotchkiss, Dr. King, Dr. Sarfraz, and all the people at the care center who helped make Papi more comfortable this last year. Your care stood out as exceptional. Papi loved a good joke, and you all always made him feel comfortable. You truly brightened his life during this last year. Your role in his life was so much more than that. We know you helped him preserve his dignity and manage his failing health with courage. Those things mattered greatly to him, as you know. We will always be grateful you were there for him.

To the Nurses, Companions, Physical Therapists, Greater Bridgeport Transit, and countless friends who were there for Papi, your empathy has made all the difference during a difficult time in his life. We want to express our heartfelt appreciation for the care and support you have provided. Your commitment to your patients is truly admirable. Your compassion has not gone unnoticed. Thank you.
