Obituary

Nelson "NAILS" Dinihanian Sr. age 76 of Stratford passed away on Thursday June 22, 2006 in V.A. Medical Center West Haven. Mr. Dinihanian, a Korean War Veteran of the U.S. Army was born in Bridgeport to the late Amira and Archalous Dinihanian and has been a life long Stratford resident. He was a 1947 graduate of Stratford High School and was a long time employee of Industrial Laundry and Pembroke Laundry; he was also the co-owner of the Seawall Restaurant in Bridgeport. Nails was an outstanding slow pitch softball player and was an original inductee to the Connecticut A.S.A Slow Pitch Softball Hall of Fame in 1985. He was the team sponsor and pitcher for the 1961 Seawall team that won the Connecticut State Championship, earning a berth to the national tournament in Louisville, KY. He was also a longtime coach of the North Stratford Little League, Pony League, Stratford Pop Warner Football, and was an original coach of St. Mark's Basketball League and founded the Stratford Girls Baseball League. In retirement he enjoyed working part-time at the Stratford Par Three golf course. Survivors include his beloved wife Lillian Krug Dinihanian, his 5 devoted children Nelson and his wife Sandra, Neil and his wife Janet, and Lori all of Stratford, John and his wife Cheryl of Waterbury and LuAnn of Colchester, 6 grandchildren Adam, Megan, Michael, Mathew, Katie and Jonathan, a brother Richard Dinihanian and his wife Alice of Stratford, and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother John. Funeral services will take place on Monday June 26th at 10:30 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford with the Rev. Dr. Robert Genevicz officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in Lakeview Cemetery Bridgeport.
