Nancy L. Rivers, 67, of Milford, CT, passed away peacefully after a recent illness. Nancy had three great passions – being a teacher, a global traveler, and a lifetime member of the United Congregational Church, Bridgeport. She was a 3rd grade teacher for most of her career at the Mill Hill grammar school in Southport. Nancy and her mother, Hazel Barnhart Rivers, also traveled extensively around the globe. She served in many capacities in her church, including Deacon, Trustee, the first woman Moderator, and quietly very generous. Nancy was a long-time choir member and enjoyed touring with them through Europe. Most of all, Nancy was known for her legendary talents in the kitchen. Whether it was preparing 90 turkeys for the Annual Thanksgiving Feast community outreach program, or fried hotdogs for the Rummage sale, you could count on Nancy's direction and hard work, both in equal parts. In retirement she continued to play golf, and remained very active in the Retired Teacher's Association. Nancy graduated from Bassick High School, Bridgeport, and Olivet College, Olivet, Michigan. She was a sorority member of Sigma Beta and she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Bridgeport. Nancy was predeceased by her mother, Hazel Barnhart Rivers and father, R. Warren Rivers. She leaves her cousins Patricia Clark and husband Bill, Thomas Davidson, Kathy Barrett, Robert Brown, and G. Brown. A Memorial Service to honor Nancy will take place Saturday, May 21st, 2:00 PM, at the United Congregational Church, 877 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, Rev. Sara D. Smith, Esq, officiating, with a reception to follow in the Church's fellowship hall. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be private at the request of the family. Arrangements are being made by Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The United Congregational Church in memory of Nancy L. Rivers. .
