Obituary

It is with love and gratitude that we mourn the passing of Morris "Pete" Ambrose, of Shelton, CT on May 9, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  Pete was born on October 11, 1937, in Bridgeport, CT to the late Morris and Lillian (Hull) Ambrosini (Ambrose).

He was pre-deceased by his brother, Don.  Pete is survived by his devoted partner, Irene Polascik, his brother, Bob Ambrose, of Stratford, and sister, Jackie Macisco, of West Haven. Pete is also survived by his children, Mike and his wife, Diana Ambrose of Easton, Patti and husband, Joe DeRiso of East Haddam, Suzy Anselmo of Niantic, Rick and his wife, Becky Ambrose of Mt. Pleasant SC, along with their mother, Beth Brooks of Shelton.  He is also survived by eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Pete proudly and honorably served our country as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division, stationed in Germany from 1955 to 1958.  He loved parachuting out of airplanes and cherished his time in Germany.  Upon returning home to the USA, he was anxious to get to work, but also to learn new things such as learning to cook from his mother. He became an excellent cook, using her recipes, and adding his own throughout his entire life.

While he was never interested in formal education or sports growing up, he became a life-long learner and Yankee fan.  He was very proud of the athletic and life achievements of his children and grandchildren.  He loved boating and fishing.  His family and friends will also always remember Pete as one of the hardest and most dedicated workers that anyone ever met.  His work ethic was legendary.  He worked at Carpenter Steel in Bridgeport from the early 1960's until it closed in 1988, and rarely missed a day of work.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 9 – 11 am on Thursday, May 16, 2024, in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Pl, Stratford CT.  A short service will occur after calling hours and then interment with Full Military Honors will be in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford, CT. After the interment, there will be a celebration of life at Vazzy's restaurant in Bridgeport.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society https://www.cancer.org/donate.html
