Michael "Duke" Pollock Jr age 94 of Stratford, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 in Bridgeport Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Bridgeport to the late Michael and Anna Balint Pollock he has been a life long area resident. He was part of the 242nd Battalion of the National Guard for six years prior to serving in the US Army for 5 years during WW II. While serving his great country his love and talent for music had him join the 242nd band and the Army Band. He played the tuba, trombone, violin and the stand-up base. He was a retired plumber/steamfitter for GE with 46years of service. He was a member of the Holy Ghost Veterans, the Holy Ghost Choir where he was past president, the Dresser Manufacturing Duckpin Bowling League and the Russian Society of Shelton. Duke had a great love for crabbing, clamming and fishing, which he did in his free time. Survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years Sophie Chernak Pollock; his devoted daughters Patricia Blackmon of Columbia, SC and Elaine Kusheba of Stratford; his cherished grandson Floyd "Chip" Blackmon of Columbia, SC; a loving great-granddaughter Maia Blackmon; a sister Bernadine "Babe" Pollock of Stratford and several nieces and nephews and a special friend Michael Kusheba. He was predeceased by his brother and sisters: Mary, John, Ann and Bertha. The family would like to thank the Bridgeport Hospital MICU floor for the caring devotion that they showed to Michael and his family during his short illness. Funeral services will take place on Friday, June 20, 2008 at 9:15 am in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10 am Holy Ghost Russian Orthodox Church, East Main Street Bridgeport. Interment with Full Military Honors will take place in St. John's Cemetery Monroe. Friends may call on Thursday from 4-7pm. Panachida will be at 6:00 pm. Those desiring may make donations in Michael's memory to Holy Ghost Church.
