– Michael Babyak, age 94, of Mohawk NY, formally of Milford, CT passed away Monday November 21, 2005 at St Luke's Medical Center in New York. Born July 14, 1911 in Bridgeport, son of the late John and Mary (Kapral) Babyak, he was educated in the Bridgeport school system. Michael served in the U.S. Army in Hawaii prior to WWII as a Pharmacists mate. While stationed in Hawaii, Michael was taught how to swim by Buster Crabbe's father. Later he participated in swimming events representing the U.S. Army during his time of service. He retired from the City of Milford in 1976. After his retirement he served as a special police officer and was active in the Milford volunteer fire dept. A member of the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist in Bridgeport, he sang with the Male Chorus, played the accordion, piano, and guitar and truly had a love for music. His greatest joy was taking his walks everyday and would walk up to 5 miles a day which he did until he was 90. Survivors include his beloved wife of 68 years, Verna Clayton Babyak, of Mohawk, NY, a son and daughter in law Richard and Victoria Babyak of Conway, SC, a daughter and son in law Sandra and Robert Wright of Mohawk, NY, his grandchildren Douglas, Susan, Stuart and Nancy Wright, Tamara and Paul Acosta, Mark Babyak, Melissa and Kevin Letsch, 4 great grandchildren Victoria, Brittany, Jackson Wright and Sebastian Acosta and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday November 29, at 9:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10 a.m. in the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist, Bridgeport, for a Requiem Funeral Service. Interment in St John Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call on Monday from 4-7 p.m. Panichida will be at 4:30p.m on Monday.
