Obituary

Michael Andrenyak, 88, of Stratford passed away peacefully on July 17 at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford, and is reunited with his wife Nina of 62 years who passed away earlier this year. Michael grew up and attended school in Bridgeport. He was an altar server at St. John Carpathian Orthodox Church. During his youth, he worked as a meat cutter at the A&P store and as a photo finisher at Frank's Photo. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and Cold War. He was stationed in Germany and worked hard to keep his fellow soldiers and officers well fed. Following his honorable discharge, Michael worked at People's Savings Bank where he proudly served both customers and employees at the Stratford Branch for over 28 years with enthusiastic dedication. Following their retirement, Mike and Nina enjoyed travel throughout the United States and especially enjoyed time on Cape Cod. Michael was an avid UCONN Husky basketball and New England Patriots fan.   His hobbies included gardening and cooking. He is fondly remembered for his homegrown tomatoes, hand crafted dill pickles and soups, which he made with his children. Mike was a steadfast father and grandfather, instilling his common sense approach to life.   He is survived by his children, David Andrenyak, Ph.D. of Salt Lake City, UT, Gail (Thomas) Denisky of Rocky Hill, and Susan (Frank) Bilek of Hebron, and his four grandchildren, Allison and Larissa Denisky and Hendrik and Michail Bilek. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Helen, his beloved wife Nina, brothers, John and Wesley and sisters, Mary, Helen and Elizabeth. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses, and health aides for their care during Michael's later years.
