Obituary

Maureen Hayes Manfredi age 77 of Wallingford, formerly of Stratford, beloved wife of Frank Manfredi passed away on Sunday May 8, 2011 in Connecticut Hospice, Branford. Maureen, a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High School and St. Mary's School of Nursing, was born in Waterbury to the late Jeremiah and Vivian (Carriero) Hayes and had been a Stratford resident for many years, before moving to Wallingford. Maureen worked for many area hospitals including St. Mary's - Waterbury, Rocky Hill State Veteran's Hospital, St. Joseph's, - Stamford, Norwalk, and was also a school nurse in Stratford, before she left nursing in 1980 to work for ITT Corporation in Shelton, where she held several positions in purchasing and import/export. She was a founding member of St. Mark's parish in 1962 and participated in early parish activities, and was a member of the Baldwin Center, and was a charter member of the AARP Chapter # 5284, where she served on the B.O.D. for ten years, and founded and ran the "Emerge" program which collected household items for the Emerge Home for battered women and children. Maureen also volunteered at the Thomas Merton Soup Kitchen in Bridgeport where she was affectionately referred to by the guests as "Mommie". Survivors in addition to her beloved husband of 54 years include her devoted sons Mark Manfredi and his wife Nancy of Wakefield, MA, John Manfredi and his wife Lisa of North Haven, and David Manfredi of Wallingford, and 3 cherished grandchildren Nicholas, Matthew and Megan. In addition to her parents she was pre-deceased by her brother Patrick Hayes. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday May 11th at 10:30 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 11 a.m. in St. Mark's Church 500 Wigwam Lane Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Rev. Michael Galasso. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury.
