Matthew S. Pekata, age 100, of Stratford, beloved husband of the late Eleanor Turchik Pekata, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025.

Matt was born in Plains, Pennsylvania on March 15, 1925, to the late Stanley and Mary (Sabat) Pekata and had been a longtime area resident. He was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army. Matt retired from Jenkins Valves Co. and was an avid fan of the New York METS and New York Giants. He was a member of St. John's Orthodox Church in Bridgeport.

Survivors include his devoted daughters, Gail Maida and Merri Middlemass both of Stratford, 4 cherished grandchildren, Joseph M. Maida, Andrew Maida, Amanda Middlemass and her husband Piotr, and Samantha Middlemass, great-grandchildren, Maya, Emma, Henryk and Joshua and several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all his neighbors, and his caregivers Erica and MaryAnn. I

n celebration of his life, please feel free to wear your Mets or Giants shirts. Visitation on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, followed by a Requiem Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. in the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist 364 Mill Hill Avenue. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford.
