Matthew Mark Berescik, age 71, died in his home in West Haven, Connecticut on Monday, July 16, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Born on February 13, 1947 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Matthew enlisted in the United States Army in 1964. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, Matthew spent time traveling in Europe before returning to the U.S. in 1970. He lived in Shelton or Milford for most of his adult life and was employed by several manufacturing concerns, both large and small. Matthew is mourned by both his family and long-time friends. The New York Mets have also lost an ardent, lifelong fan. A private memorial service will be held on a future date.
