Barvenik - Matthew Barvenik, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his home September 16, 2011. Matthew was born April 8, 1920 in Stratford, CT and resided in Trumbull, CT until his passing. He was a loving father and grandfather, a general contractor, an oysterman and avid gardener. He proudly raised his family, built his homes, and served his country in World War II as a member of the Army Corps of Engineers working to construct the Alcan Highway and defending our freedom in France. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Frances Barvenik, and his eight children; Matthew Barvenik Jr. and his wife Marion, David Barvenik and Amit Oren, Marianne Gill and her husband Lawrence, Kathleen Palascak and her husband Miro, Susan Murray, Rosemary Barvenik and Hector Rodriguez, Annmarie Giammattei and her husband David, Maureen Gazzola and her husband Jack; 10 cherished grandchildren, Shannon LaBarca and her husband Jack, Seth and Devin Gill, Emilia and Michael Palascak, Ethan Murray, Adam and Benjamin Giammattei, Claire and Jessie Gazzola. Funeral services will take place on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 9:00 am in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10 am in St. Catherine of Siena Church Shelton Road Trumbull with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with Full Military Services will be in Nichols Burial Grounds in Trumbull. Friends may call on Sunday from 4-7 pm.
