Mary A. Sansone VanGrowski, age 87, of Shelton, formerly of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Victor VanGrowski, passed away on December 19, 2017 at Masonicare in Newtown. Mary was born on December 4, 1930 in Bridgeport to the late Angelo and Carmella (Baldino) Sansone and has been a life long area resident. She was a retired waitress for Salerno's Pizza. Mary loved and adored her husband, Victor, with whom she shared forty-four years of marriage. Her pride and joy were her daughters and grandchildren. True to her Italian heritage, Mary loved to cook, and bake cookies with her best friend, Evie Perkins, she hosted many holidays and celebrations. A clean home and a pot of gravy on the stove was everything to Mary, and she instilled the same in her daughters. Mary also loved beautiful clothes, but most of all loved shopping for them. She was a devoted daughter to her parents, and loved her siblings beyond measure. Mary will be sorely missed by all of the lives she touched. Survivors include her devoted daughters. Patricia Kelly Smith of Massachusetts, Arlene Greene of Shelton, and Joyce Cross and her husband Michael of Missouri, a step-son, Victor VanGrowski and his wife Diann of Florida, 3 grandchildren, Melissa Verdura and her husband Luciano III, Allan Greene, and Victor Dowgiallo, 2 great-grandchildren, Giuliana and Luciano Verdura IV, a brother, Angelo Sansone Jr, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was pre-deceased by her brothers, Carmen and Joseph Sansone and sister, Genevieve DeFelice. Funeral services will take place on Friday, December 22 ^nd at 9:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, and at 10 a.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private. Friends may greet Mary's family on Thursday from 4-7 p.m.
