Mary Gilbert Semanchik, age 97, formerly of Stratford, the widow of John Semanchik, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2015 in the Lutheran Home, Southbury. Mary a retired seamstress in the Upholstery Department at Sikorsky Aircraft, was born in Granville, New York one of ten children to the late Michael and Mary (Macura) Gilbert and has been a long time area resident. She was a member of the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist in Bridgeport, and had fond memories of walking up the hill on Wednesday and Friday evenings during Lent to attend services and also making perogies at the church center on Barnum Avenue. Survivors include her devoted son, Robert Semanchik and his wife Faith of Oxford, 3 granddaughters, Natalie Eales and her husband Martin of England, Andrea Iacomacci and her husband Carl of Seymour, and Stephanie Clermont of Middlebury, 6 great-grandchildren, Epernay, Emily, Adam, Claudia, Gunner, and Garrison, her sister Katherine Bialko of Monroe, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was pre-deceased by her siblings, Nicholas, Michael, John, Alek and Joseph Gilbert, Ellen Fialkowski, Anne Wargo, and Susan Gullotta. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, September 17th, 2015 at 9:15AM in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10AM in the Carpatho Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist 364 Mill Hill Ave, Bridgeport, for a Requiem Funeral Service. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may greet her family on Wednesday from 4-7PM. Panachida will be at 4:30PM. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations in Mary's memory to St. John's Church.
