Obituary

Mary Barbara Prokop, age 91, of Shelton, a retired Registered Nurse, passed away in Bridgeport Hospital on Monday, August 11, 2014. Born in Bridgeport to the late Joseph A. and Mary (Smoter) Prokop she has been a lifelong Shelton resident. Mary graduated from Shelton High School and the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing and was a nurse in Bridgeport Hospital. She was a nurse in Arkansas during the polio epidemic and worked for Drs Robert and Edward Gerety of Fairfield and Dr. Andrew Panietteri of Bridgeport. She also was a General Electric industrial nurse and retired to take care of her father after 40 years of nursing service. Mary was an EMT for Shelton Ambulance and volunteered at the Ella T. Grasso Center and Shelton Senior Center. In addition to her parents Mary was predeceased by her brothers, Louis S. Prokop, John G. Prokop, and Joseph A. Prokop, brothers-in-law, Ernest F. Pouilliard and Russell F. Adams. Survivors include her devoted sisters, Frances Pouilliard of Harwinton and Elizabeth Adams of Shelton, 3 sisters-in-law Helene Prokop of Shelton, Julia Prokop of Shelton and Irma Prokop of Glastonbury, several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 11:30AM in St. Lawrence Church 505 Shelton Ave, Shelton. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford. Calling hours have been omitted. The Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ella T. Grasso Center, 300 Armory Road, Stratford, 06614.
