Obituary

Mary Pencak, age 97, passed away on September 30, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born November 4, 1920 in Harrison, PA, to Peter and Catherine Sproch, Mary emigrated with her parents and siblings to Sambron, Slovakia, where she lived until she returned to the United States in 1937. She married the love of her life, her beloved husband of 47 years, John Pencak in Brooklyn, NY. Mary and John were proud owners of Pencak's Bar & Restaurant in the Greenpoint area of Brooklyn. Many good friends, times and memories were made there and she loved to retell the many memories she had collected over the years. We will miss your stories Mom. She resided in Brooklyn for many years before moving to Easton, PA for retirement. Mary is a longtime member of the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist in Bridgeport, CT. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a very beautiful woman, with a loving, happy, kind, caring spirit and a great sense of humor that always brought a smile or laugh to you. Mary was a very loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Aunt and Friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her so dearly. In addition to her parents and husband John, Mary was predeceased by her siblings John Sproch, Peter Sproch, Helen Babey and Anne Sedlak. She will be dearly missed by her beloved daughter Mary Boncik, of Bethlehem, PA and her son, John Pencak and wife Karen, of Shelton, CT. Her loving grandchildren, Tanya Rogers and husband Kevin, Cammy Georgiou, MaryHelena Gomes and husband Claude, John Boncik and wife Nicole will miss their Baba Honeybun immensely. Great-grandchildren, Trevor Rogers, Cassie Rogers and Michael Georgiou held a very special place in Mom's heart. Mary was loved by all her nieces and nephews and their devotion and love always made her so happy, Jane PaPa, Nancy Loughlin, Sally Rappoport, Jim Sedlak, John Butchko, Steven Butchko and Bob Sproch. Funeral Services will take place on Friday, October 5 th at 9:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford, CT and at 10 a.m. in the Carpatho Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist, 364 Mill Hill Ave., Bridgeport with the Very Reverend Protopresbyter David Cochran officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery; Stratford, CT. Calling hours will take place on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Panachida will be at 4:30 pm. Donations can be made to St. John's Church in Mary's memory.
