Mary Elizabeth Hudenets Sokira, age 89, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Michael Sokira Sr., passed away on Friday September 23, 2011 in St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport. Mrs. Sokira, a retired employee of Fairfield University was born in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania to the late Stephen and Vera (Kochiss) Hudenets and has been a long time area resident. Mary was an active long time member of St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church in Trumbull, where she was a member of the Choir, and Women's Guild. She is survived by her devoted children Michael Sokira Jr. and his wife Elaine of Stratford, and Elizabeth DeFeo and her significant other Frank Kennedy of Bridgeport, 3 cherished grandsons Michael Sokira III and his wife Jennifer, Joseph DeFeo and his significant other Hillary Cox, and Matthew DeFeo, a great-grandson Ryan Sokira , 2 sisters Irene Knopick of Bridgeport and Margaret Stankoski of Trumbull and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday September 27th at 9 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10 a.m. in St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church Nichols, for a Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call on Monday from 4-7 p.m.
